Today, I learned a lot about the Cold War. I mostly worked on the collapse of the Soviet Union. Three things that I learned about this was:
1) The Soviet Union had a very poor economy, which was a big factor in the events to precede the collapse. 2) The Government set up programs to allow more private property, and more freedom of speech (which helped it's collapsed). 3) The leader of the USSR at the time (Mikhail Gorbachev) was kidnapped in an attempt to the overthrow of the government.

In this unit, I learned a lot about one of the main causes of the Great Depression, and how it spread like wildfire. The Treaty of Versailles was not very kind to Germany. Not only did Germany lose land, they were forced to demilitarize, and pay a massive fee of 33 billion US dollars to cover damages caused by the war. Germany couldn't keep up with these payments, so America decided to help Germany out by loaning them some money. This decision caused America's markets to crash. In response, they asked Germany for the loan money back thus creating a new problem. Germany wasn't able to pay the reparations to European countries anymore. This caused the Europeans market crash as well. A lot of people's hopes were lost until totalitarian leaders claimed they could fix this economic mess. This would eventually help decide who would be the contenders of WWⅡ. One thing that still do not know is how the League of Nations came up with the price of 33 billion dollars to make Germany pay?
In this unit, I learned a lot more about the dictator of Germany during World War 2. Adolf Hitler was a big part of WWⅡ, And the way he got into power to create the catastrophes that he did is very eventful. After World War II ended, Adolf Hitler joined the German Workers Party (later to be named the Nazi Party). And his time there, the party was focused on creating the Jews into a scapegoat. Hitler gave several speeches to please the members of the extreme right-wing party which allowed him to move up the ranks. Consequently, this allowed him to deliver his vile speeches to a much larger audience and gain more support for his cause. Hitler's party organized an attempt to overthrow the government in parts of Southern Germany (the event is called the Beer Hall Putsch). The attempt failed, and later, Hitler was sentenced to jail. During his time spent there, he wrote a manifesto called Mein Kampf. The book became very popular and when he got out, Hitler later became the leader of Germany by legally running for office. I wonder what particular parts of Hitler's speech did the Germans like, and if they didn't love any certain parts.
Throughout this unit, I have learned many things about the causes of WWⅡ. A big thing that relates to the causes of WWⅡ are the 10 stages of genocide. Genocide is made up of the classification, symbolization, discrimination, dehumanization, and polarization of people. It also includes the organization of state-sponsored plans (violent ones), preparation of those plans mentioned, which leads to the persecution, extermination of people, and denying that it all even happened. An example of this can be seen with the Holocaust. Adolf Hitler organized the Nazi party and classified Jews as the source of Germany's problems. The German people wanted to hear this which led to propaganda being made to signify the Jews as inhuman, which ended up with the Jews being discriminated against. Adolf Hitler persecuted the Jews and sent them to concentration camps which led to their extermination. To help cover it up, the Nazis denied it ever happened. But unfortunately, even today, there are still people who believe that the Holocaust did not exist in the first place.
Throughout this project, I have learned, and relearned things I forgot about World War 1. For example, one interesting fact that I've learned is that the war started with the assassination of Franz Ferdinand, who was the heir to the throne of Austria-Hungary. That then made Austria-Hungary, with the military support of Germany, declared war on Serbia, To help Serbia in these tough times, the United States, France, Russia, and Great Britten came to help.
Another thing that I learned was how much woman made an impact by maintaining the countries. By working in factories, replacing the men who went to war, they were able to keep the country moving. Finally, I remembered what happened after World War 1. At the end of the 4 year war, roughly 21 million people died from battle, the war costed the world roughly 32 billion dollars, and Germany got destroyed by the Treaty of Versailles. Germany was forced to pay 33 billion US dollars in reparations, had to reduce their military size, give up territory that they owned, as well as many other things. What is going to be the easiest part of the Learning Process for you and why do you think this?
The easiest part of this project for will be Project Management. I always know where my work is and how to lay it out so that everything can be easily seen and understood to another person. What is going to be the hardest? The thing that's gonna be the hardest for me is Research. I can't decide what pieces of evidence are good enough, or finding something good but not being able to Incorporated it. For example, I found a newspaper that was on the Library Of Congress's website, and there wasn't a way to get it. |
